Institute for Innovative Materials and Energy

The Institute of Innovative Materials and Energy (hereinafter referred to as the "Institute") was established in June 2016. It is a research institution established by the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering to meet the development needs of international new energy and new materials science and technology, and to promote the integration and development of relevant materials and energy disciplines in the school.

The development goal of the Institute: Based on the construction foundation of chemistry and materials disciplines of the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, the Institute conducts scientific research on emerging industries such as new energy, new materials, energy conservation and environmental protection, biotechnology and new medicine related to the major development directions of the country and Jiangsu Province, and focuses on the development of innovative materials applied to energy and biomedicine. It has four major research directions: Battery Technology Institute, Energy Catalytic Materials Institute, Nanobiotechnology Institute, and Photoelectric Materials and Devices Institute.

Materials and green energy are the key scientific and industrial fields of the state. Since the "13th Five-Year Plan", the state has vigorously implemented the innovation-driven development strategy, focusing on promoting the development of science, technology and industry in the fields of new energy and new materials, providing a wide space for the development of the Institute. At the same time, relying on the discipline of chemistry as the dominant discipline in Jiangsu Province, the chemistry major as the national first-class major and the brand major in Jiangsu Province, and the discipline of chemistry as the top 1.7‰ discipline in ESI in the world (as of March 2023); relying on the discipline of materials, the discipline ranks 2.7‰ in ESI (as of March 2023). Relying on the substantial improvement of discipline strength, it provides important discipline support for the development of the Institute.

Since the establishment of the Institute, in accordance with the requirements of the "13th Five-Year Plan" career development plan of Yangzhou University, the Institute has vigorously introduced high-level young and middle-aged talents, young and top talents, and has first built a scientific research team with young and middle-aged as the main body, high scientific research level, reasonable structure, full of solidarity and cooperation and innovative spirit. At present, the institute has 20 permanent staff, including 1 director and 1 secretary, 80% of the staff are under the age of 40, and more than 90% of the teachers have overseas experience, including 1 national talent, 1 provincial special professor, 1 provincial "333" high-level talent training object, 2 university special professors, and 1 provincial "Six talent Peak" innovative talent team project. Jiangsu Province double innovation doctor 7 people. Conducted nearly 20 projects above the provincial and ministerial level, published more than 300 SCI academic papers, was recognized as an excellent scientific and technological innovation team of Jiangsu universities, and hosted the first National Energy Chemistry Conference in 2018 (scale: 500 students), hosted the provincial "Innovative Materials and Energy Chemistry Graduate Student Forum" in 2019, and hosted the provincial "Nano and Catalysis Graduate Student Forum" in 2021, which greatly enhanced the influence of the discipline at home and abroad.

Since its establishment, the Institute has strictly adhered to the educational goal of building the University into a "first-class, internationally renowned and high-level research university with distinctive characteristics", grasped the leading edge of the development of materials disciplines, kept close to the needs of economic innovation and development, and aimed to build a first-class and internationally renowned high-level research institute, focusing on attracting outstanding talents at home and abroad. Vigorously promote the integration of disciplines, international cooperation and innovation of management and operation mechanism, and constantly improve the innovation ability and level of the institute, which has become an important part of the university's scientific and technological innovation.

Looking forward to the "14th Five-Year Plan", the Institute will earnestly implement the development concept of "teachers and students as the center", strictly adhere to the theme of "moral cultivation" and "high-quality development", further cultivate first-class disciplines, build first-class majors, attract first-class teachers, train first-class talents, and produce first-class results. Toward the goal of building a "first-class, internationally renowned and distinctive high-level research college"!
